Founded in 1764 on Laclede’s Landing, St. Louis has a rich history as the central hub for the Western Expansion of the United States throughout the 19th century. As the starting point for Lewis and Clark’s Corps of Discovery, St. Louis was pivotal in stretching the United States from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The area is so rich in history that even the nine blocks of present-day Laclede’s Landing have a story all their own with 17 historic buildings.
